PiVVO, (Pierre Verger Vanguard Orchestra), is a Carioca band (Carioca is the name given to those born in Rio de Janeiro). Formed in 2003 in the Lapa quarter of Rio De Janeiro, they mix elements of new Nu-music with Bossa Nova and Samba.
The sound of Pivvo is formed by using the three basic elements of the Samba: acoustic guitar, voice and percussion. The effects of guitar and vocals creates a contemporary and melancholic atmosphere, which when combined with Pivvo's mixture of textures, results in what has been called Nu-bossa - with songs which reflect the daily life of Carioca and the Brasilian soul.
